Our Approach

Clear, Independent and Evidence-Based Reports

A medico-legal report needs to do more than describe a person's difficulties. It needs to provide clear clinical opinions that can assist the Court or other decision-makers.

The reports aim to:

  • Clearly identify the functional issues relevant to the matter
  • Distinguish reported difficulties from observed functional limitations
  • Explain the relationship between an injury or condition and functional impairment
  • Provide objective clinical reasoning for recommendations
  • Quantify care and assistance requirements where appropriate
  • Identify equipment, home modification and environmental requirements
  • Consider the person's current and potential future functional capacity
  • Clearly explain the evidence supporting each opinion
  • Use terminology that is clinically appropriate while remaining accessible to legal professionals

Reports are prepared independently and objectively, with opinions based on the available evidence rather than advocacy for either party.

Suitable for a Range of Medico-Legal Matters

Medico-legal OT assessments may be relevant to matters involving:

  • Personal injury
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Workplace injuries
  • Medical negligence
  • Catastrophic injury
  • Acquired brain injury
  • Neurological conditions
  • Orthopaedic injuries
  • Chronic pain
  • Psychological injury
  • Disability
  • Complex functional impairment

Why Engage an Occupational Therapist?

An occupational therapy assessment provides a valuable perspective in matters where the key question is:

“How has this person's condition affected their ability to function in everyday life?”

Occupational therapists assess the interaction between a person's physical and cognitive abilities, their environment and the activities they need or want to perform.

This makes OT assessment particularly valuable where a matter involves questions regarding independence, care requirements, domestic assistance, employment, parenting, community participation, equipment, home modifications or future support needs.

A Thorough Assessment. A Defensible Opinion.

Every matter is different. I take the time to understand the specific legal questions being asked and tailor the assessment to the issues relevant to the claim.

The goal is to provide a useful, clinically defensible functional evidence that helps legal professionals understand the person's actual level of disability and support needs.
